Enzo is my first real release since HL1 days, those efforts which are long lost by now, and its probably better that way. I had the idea that I wanted to create an industrial theme in sub-zero atmosphere, so I quickly doodled up a sketch of a long monolithic port of some sort embedded in an arctic cave on the coast. The facility would naturally have been decommissioned or abandoned, and it was important to show disrepair and neglect. More importantly, however, it was important to convey that its freaking cold outside, which was done tweaking the color of the environment lights and use of particle atmospherics.

Enzo was built in the 1960's as a covert compound for launching test rockets during the space race. Its location in a mountainous inlet, makes the station not only hard to reach by water, but hard to see from outside the bay. After the 70's, the station lost its funding by NASA and began to license itself periodically to private aerospace corporations to maintain the facilities, until it was finally decommissioned in 1989.

Enzo was designed and built in approximately 3 weeks. It makes use of most of the HL2 arsenal, although more powerful weapons such as the rocket launcher have been left out, for layout reasons. Enzo makes use of mostly Valve assets, however, some textures have been customized for the purposes of the setting.
